Condition: Wonderful patina with numerous cuprite areas. Intact.

Description: A barber’s equipment used for trimming a beard. The semi-circular side was placed on the neck so that the beard fell on the crescent area. The handle in form of a swan’s head, a leaf, where the barber placed his thumb, originates from the head of the swan. At the bottom a set off foot base. A visit to a barber was almost part of daily business in Rome, and was a habit of any patrician. As of the 2nd century B.C. the profession of a barber was so popular that numerous shops opened, set up with high-quality equipment such as this one.
