Christoph Bacher (born in November 1973) studied History at the University of Vienna and worked as a journalist for almost 20 years until February 2015, most of the time as head of the department and later on as member of the board of editors of the magazine NEWS.
But for over 20 years his passion belongs to the intensive engagement with art. Together with his wife Rosalynn Phoa-Bacher he has founded a widely acclaimed private collection of contemporary art, curated exhibitions and acted as an expert for young Asian art.
For over 15 years now the Viennese has focused his collecting passion on the field of archaeology which is weakly represented in the Austrian art market. During this time he was able to create a tight international network of collectors, curators and dealers. “Ancient art”, according to Bacher, “is not as speculative as modern is, prices are reasonable, but the works are timeless. At the same time the market grows continuously because art lovers, amongst them also many contemporary artists, are attracted to the often thousands of years old pieces.” Moreover, Bacher is respected as an expert for the authenticity and provenance of ancient works not only in Austria, his expertise is sought after nationally and internationally.
The gallery opened in April 2015 at Stubenring in the centre of Vienna and has been extended in April 2017 by a large showroom with over 170 square meters just steps away. The programme includes hundreds of art pieces dating from 6 000 B.C. to 600 A.D. Every piece is examined diligently for its genuineness, origin and provenance. Its authenticity – as a matter of fact – is guaranteed without any time limitations.
