Description: Terracotta applique of light clay in form of a Gorgoneion of the so-called beautiful type. The round face with fine, almost perfect features. The eyes looking out from thick lids, the nose straight, the mouth not as a grimace, but with thick, sensual lips. The hair with the typical serpents parted in the centre. Noticeable are the separately worked out earrings with ray decoration. The applique was once attached on a vase, possibly from Canosa. Mounted.
