Description: Large footed bowl of the Nariño culture, which developed in southwestern Colombia from 800 AD and is known for its outstanding ceramics. The hand-shaped, deep bowl stands on a stepped foot ring. The dark brown and red painting inside is carefully and creatively done. From the tondo, three parallel lines run eight times upwards in a star shape. Eight large stylized animals, probably grasshoppers, with slender bodies and long tails hang vertically on each right-hand line. The animals have claw-like arms and legs with which they hold on to the stalks. The head is pointed and the large eyes are painted as circles. Four horns protrude from the back of the head. Areas around the grasshoppers are decorated with red dots.
