Provenance: East German private collection, 1989 auctioned in a German auction house, thence German private collection.

Condition: The genital taken off in modern era and covered with a leaf. A small piece of the original plinth and the front part of the right foot added around at the same time.

Description: Fountain figure of Eros with dolphin of white fine crystalline marble. The nude God holding himself with his right hand on the head of the dolphin, whose wide open jaw is used as a gargoyle. The raised left hand supports the tail of the animal. Eros is slightly bent backwards, with thick curls and inclined head. A wonderful work originating from a Roman villa from the imperial period.
