Description: Terracotta sarcophagus lid with an anthropomorphic face from the Levant which underlines the strong relationships to Egypt in that period. The face tapering downwards with sculptural, bulging, almond-shaped eyes, semi-circular brows, and a slightly open mouth with thick lips. The head wears an Egyptian wig with two lobs cascading over the shoulders in the front. Sarcophagus lids such as the present one were found for example in Tel Shaddud in northern Israel, but also in other places of the Levant. They were used for Egyptian officials or local people, who worked for the Egyptian service. Mounted.
