Cypriote Small Head of a Rider
Culture: Cypriot
Period: 6th century B.C.
Material: Terracotta
Dimensions: 5.8 cm high
Price: Sold
Ref: 2268
Provenance: From the estate of Josef Strasser, Lannach, Styria, Austria. Acquired in the 1960s.
Condition: Fragment of a rider statuette.
Description: Small terracotta head of a bearded man, who possibly sat on a stylized horse. He wears a Phrygian cap and has small shoulders. These riders are likely described as Syro-Hittite and are often wrongly dated 1000 years earlier. But since the face is formed in a mold, dating it to the 6th century is by all means correct. Mounted.
